Club Soda

Method

Club Soda

1

Chill and prepare

Start with chilled water or a chilled glass. Cold liquids retain carbonation better, so place your glass in the refrigerator or freezer for a few minutes if desired.

2

If you are using pre-carbonated club soda purchased from a store, simply pour 1 cup (about 240 ml) into a chilled serving glass over 2–3 ice cubes if desired. If you are making a small DIY fizzy water using sparkling water from a keg or soda maker, dispense 1 cup of carbonated water into the glass.

3

Adjust minerality (optional)

To replicate the slightly mineral taste of commercial club soda, dissolve 1 teaspoon of baking soda into the cup of carbonated water. Stir gently once with a spoon—avoid vigorous stirring to preserve carbonation. If desired, add a pinch of food-grade mineral salt (such as potassium bicarbonate or a tiny pinch of table salt) to increase minerality. Taste and adjust: add more baking soda a small pinch at a time if you want a more alkaline, mineral-forward note.

4

Garnish and serve

Optionally add a lemon or lime wedge on the rim or squeezed into the water for a bright note. Serve immediately to retain maximum fizz.
