Method
Prepare the Taco Shells
- 1
Heat the Oil
In a skillet, heat 3 tablespoons of oil over medium heat.
- 2
Fry the Tortillas
Once the oil is hot, add the corn tortillas one at a time. Fry each side for about 30 seconds until they are slightly crispy. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Cook the Protein
- 3
Ground Beef
In a separate skillet, cook 1 pound of ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- 4
Chicken Breast
Alternatively, grill or pan-sear 1 pound of chicken breast until fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F). Let it rest, then chop into bite-sized pieces.
- 5
Black Beans
For a vegetarian option, heat 1 can of black beans in a small saucepan until warmed through. Season with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lime juice.
Assemble the Tacos
- 6
Layer the Ingredients
Take a fried tortilla and add your choice of protein. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese.
- 7
Add Condiments
Add a dollop of sour cream and a spoonful of salsa on top of the fillings.
- 8
Garnish
Finish with chopped fresh cilantro and serve with lime wedges on the side.
