Potato Preparation
Method
Potato Preparation
- 1
Select and Peel the Potatoes
Choose 4 large russet potatoes. Rinse them under cold water and peel the skin using a vegetable peeler.
- 2
Cut the Potatoes
Cut each potato into even strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick. This ensures they cook evenly.
- 3
Soak the Potato Strips
Place the cut potato strips in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps achieve crispiness.
- 4
Drain and Dry
After soaking, drain the water and pat the potato strips dry with a clean kitchen towel.
Cooking
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 6
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of potato strips to the hot oil. Avoid overcrowding the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain the Fries
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- 8
Season the Fries
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Toss gently to coat.
