Churro Dough

Method

Churro Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water and Butter

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of water, 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Bring to a boil.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Once the water mixture is boiling, remove it from heat and quickly stir in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs

Let the dough cool for a few minutes, then add 2 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Chocolate Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Heat Cream

In a small saucepan over low heat, pour in 1 cup of heavy cream and heat until just simmering, but not boiling.

  2. 6

    Melt Chocolate

Remove from heat and add 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Frying Churros

  1. 7

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 8

    Pipe Churros

Using a piping bag fitted with a star tip, pipe 4-6 inch long strips of dough into the hot oil.

  3. 9

    Fry Churros

Fry the churros for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 10

    Coat in Sugar

In a shallow dish, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon. Roll the fried churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
