Method

For the cocktail

  1. 1

    Muddle cucumber

Place 3 thin slices of English cucumber in a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle 6–8 times to release fresh cucumber juice and aroma — avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness.

  2. 2

    Add spirits and citrus

Add 2 oz Ketel One Vodka, 0.75 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into the shaker with the muddled cucumber.

  3. 3

    Shake with ice

Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.

  4. 4

    Double-strain

Double-strain the contents through a fine mesh strainer (or a Hawthorne strainer plus fine mesh) into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass to remove cucumber solids and tiny ice shards, leaving a smooth green-hued cocktail.

For garnish & finish

  1. 5

Slide a cucumber ribbon or a single thin cucumber wheel onto the rim or float it in the drink. Gently slap a mint sprig between your palms to awaken oils and place it on the drink for aroma. If desired, finish with a light lemon twist expressed over the surface and discarded or placed as an accent.

  2. 6

Serve immediately while chilled. Recommend pairing with light appetizers or as a refreshing aperitif.
