Method
Cocktail
Build and shake
Add vodka, akvavit, Mr. Black (coffee liqueur), cold brew, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice until about two-thirds full.
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and a fine frost forms. This chills and lightly dilutes the drink while integrating the spirits and coffee flavors.
Double strain
Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass (or a rocks glass over one large ice cube if you prefer). Double-straining (using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer) removes small ice shards for a silky texture.
Finish & serve
Garnish
Float three coffee beans on the surface of the drink. Optionally express an orange twist over the cocktail to release oils, run it around the rim, and drop it in or rest it on the glass.
Serve
Serve immediately. The profile should be a balanced mix of clean vodka, herbaceous/anise notes from the akvavit, and rich coffee from Mr. Black and the cold brew. Adjust simple syrup by ±0.25 oz on future pours to taste.
