Cocktail
Chill glass
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the cocktail to ensure it is well chilled.
Measure ingredients
Using a jigger, measure 2 oz Ketel One Vodka, 1 oz Mr. Black Coffee Liqueur, 0.5 oz aquavit, 1 oz cold brew coffee, and 0.25 oz simple syrup into the cocktail shaker.
Add ice
Add about 6 oz of fresh ice to the shaker (enough to fill it roughly 2/3 full).
Dry shake (optional)
For a slightly silkier foam, seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 8–10 seconds without ice (this emulsifies the coffee and liqueur).
Wet shake
If you dry-shook, open the shaker, add the ice, reseal and shake very hard for 12–15 seconds. If you didn't dry-shake, simply shake with ice for 15–20 seconds. The goal is to chill thoroughly and create a light foamy head from the coffee liqueur and cold brew.
Double strain
Remove the chilled glass's ice/water if used. Using both the shaker's strainer and a fine strainer, pour the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass to remove any small ice shards and to ensure a smooth texture.
Garnish and serve
Float three coffee beans on top of the foam as a classic garnish. Serve immediately.
Equipment
Have a chilled glass, jigger, shaker, and fine strainer ready before starting. Clean and dry all equipment after use.
