Sunset Cocktail

Method

Sunset Cocktail

1

Prepare Glass

Select a tall Collins glass or large rocks glass. Fill the glass about three-quarters full with ice and set aside.

2

Mix Base

In a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice, combine the vodka (2 oz), fresh orange juice (3 oz), pineapple juice (1 oz), and fresh lime juice (0.5 oz). Add one dash of Angostura bitters. Secure the lid.

3

Shake

Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker feels cold to the touch and the liquid is well chilled and slightly frothy.

4

Strain

Strain the mixture into the prepared ice-filled glass, leaving about 0.5–1 inch headspace at the top.

5

Create Sunset Effect

Slowly pour the grenadine (0.5 oz) down the inside edge of the glass or over the back of a spoon so it sinks to the bottom and gradually rises into the drink, creating a layered 'sunset' gradient. Do not stir.

6

Garnish and Serve

Garnish with an orange wheel or twist and a maraschino cherry on a pick. Serve with a straw and a cocktail stirrer so the drinker can mix if desired.

7

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, omit vodka and increase orange juice by 2 oz or add 2 oz of ginger ale for fizz. Use cold juices for best layering; grenadine is dense and will sink to form the sunset effect.
