Canned Gatorade (makes 4 cans / 4 servings)

Method

Canned Gatorade Preparation

  1. 1

    Sanitize and prepare containers

If using empty cans or resealable cans/bottles, rinse them thoroughly with hot soapy water and sanitize by filling with boiling water for 1 minute or using a food-safe sanitizer. Allow to drain and dry on a clean rack. Ensure lids or seals are ready and clean.

  2. 2

    Mix base

In a large heatproof pitcher or measuring container, add 2 cups of Gatorade concentrate (powdered or liquid). Pour in 2 cups of filtered water and stir vigorously until the concentrate is fully dissolved or well combined. If using powdered concentrate, ensure there are no dry lumps.

  3. 3

Adjust sweetness and salt (if using unsweetened concentrate)

If your concentrate is unsweetened or you want a sweeter drink, add up to 2 tablespoons granulated sugar. Add 1 teaspoon table salt for sodium. Stir until sugar and salt are completely dissolved. Taste and adjust: add small increments (1/2 tbsp sugar or 1/4 tsp salt) until the flavor matches commercial Gatorade intensity.

  4. 4

    Add acidity and potassium (optional)

For brightness, add 1 teaspoon citric acid or 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and 2 tablespoons orange juice for color and flavor. If you want additional potassium similar to sports drinks, add about 1 teaspoon potassium chloride powder or one electrolyte tablet dissolved. Stir thoroughly and taste; do not exceed recommended amounts for electrolyte powders—follow package guidance.

  5. 5

    Dilute to final volume

Add the remaining 4 cups of filtered water (to total 6 cups water used in recipe) to reach the desired concentration. Stir well and taste. The final blend should balance sweetness, saltiness, and tartness similar to a sports drink. Adjust with tiny amounts of water, sugar, salt, or citric acid until satisfied.

  6. 6

    Chill

Place the mixed drink in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes until thoroughly chilled. Alternatively, fill serving cans with ice just before pouring if you prefer immediate service.

  7. 7

    Can and seal

When chilled, fill each sanitized 12 fl oz can or bottle nearly to the top, leaving about 1/2 inch headspace. Seal the cans/bottles securely. If using resealable bottles, close tightly. Label if desired with date and flavor.

  8. 8

    Serve

Serve cold. If you prefer on-the-go cans, keep refrigerated or packed with ice in a cooler. Discard any remaining product after 3–4 days refrigerated for best quality.
