Build the drink
Fill a highball or old-fashioned glass with ice (enough to come near the top). Pour 1 oz Campari and 1 oz sweet vermouth directly over the ice.

Top with soda
Gently pour about 2 oz (or to taste) chilled soda water over the Campari and vermouth. Stir once or twice with a bar spoon to combine — avoid over-stirring to keep some effervescence.

Garnish and serve
Express the oils of an orange peel over the glass by holding the peel skin-side down above the drink and giving it a quick twist, then drop the peel into the glass as garnish. Serve immediately with a short straw if desired.
