Cocktail Preparation

1

Muddle the Sugar and Bitters

In an old-fashioned glass, add the sugar and bitters. Muddle them together until the sugar is dissolved.

2

Add the Whiskey

Pour the bourbon or rye whiskey into the glass with the muddled sugar and bitters.

3

Add Ice

Add the ice cubes to the glass, stirring gently to combine the ingredients.

4

Garnish

Twist the citrus peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass. If desired, add a maraschino cherry as a garnish.
