Preparation Steps
1. Prepare the Tofu
Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Slice the tofu into 1/2-inch thick slabs.
2. Marinate the Tofu
In a bowl, mix together maple syrup, chipotle powder, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Add the tofu slabs and let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.
3. Grill the Tofu
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the marinated tofu for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until grill marks appear and the tofu is heated through.
4. Grill the Vegetables
Slice the red onion into thick rings. Brush with olive oil and grill for about 3-4 minutes until softened. Slice the tomato and avocado.
5. Assemble the Hoagie
Cut the hoagie rolls lengthwise. Spread chipotle aioli on the inside of each roll. Layer with grilled tofu, grilled onions, sliced tomato, avocado, and lettuce.
6. Serve
Close the hoagie rolls and serve immediately while warm.
