Method
Base & Bitters
- 1
Measure bitters and juices
Add 1 tsp Stappi N/A bitters and 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice to a mixing glass or shaker.
Citrus & Syrup
- 2
Add lemon and sweetener
Add 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.5 oz simple syrup to the mixing glass with the bitters and grapefruit juice.
Herb & Muddle
- 3
Muddle verbena
Place 6 fresh verbena leaves in the mixing glass. Gently muddle once or twice — just enough to release bright citrusy aroma but avoid shredding the leaves into bits.
- 4
Add ice and chill
Fill the mixing glass with ice (about 1 cup or enough to chill). Stir briskly for 10–15 seconds to properly chill and slightly dilute the mixture.
Assemble & Top
- 5
Strain over fresh ice
Strain the chilled mixture into a highball or Collins glass filled with fresh cubed ice (about 3/4 full). Use a fine strainer if your muddling broke up any leaves.
- 6
Top with soda
Gently top with 3 oz chilled soda water. Give one or two gentle stirs to combine without flattening the soda.
Garnish & Serve
- 7
Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the drink, drop the twist in or add a wheel on the rim, and finish with a sprig of verbena tucked into the top. Serve immediately with a straw if desired.
