French Fries Ingredients
Method
French Fries Directions
Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut each potato into evenly sized sticks, about 1/4 inch wide.
Soak the Potatoes
Soak the cut potato sticks in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This will help them become crispier when fried.
Dry the Potatoes
After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Make sure they are as dry as possible.
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can check the temperature with a deep-fry thermometer.
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a batch of dried potato sticks into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry them for about 3-5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and any optional seasonings like garlic powder or paprika.
Serve
Serve the fries immediately while they are hot and crispy. Enjoy them with your favorite dipping sauce!
