Cocktail Preparation
- 1
Chill glass
Place a rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass, add 2 oz bourbon, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz dry curaçao, 0.25 oz walnut-forward amaro, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters.
- 3
- 4
Prepare serving glass
Discard the chilling ice or remove the rocks glass from the freezer. Place a single large clear ice cube (or two large cubes) into the chilled rocks glass.
- 5
Strain
Using a julep or hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube.
Garnish & Aromatics
- 6
Express orange oil
Hold the orange twist over the drink with the peel facing down. Firmly squeeze the peel to release the oils, moving it across the surface of the cocktail so the oils spray over the drink. If using an extra spritz, very lightly spritz one quick burst of expressed orange oil over the top.
- 7
Finish and serve
Rub the rim of the glass briefly with the orange twist, then drop the twist into the drink along with one luxardo cherry on a pick. Serve immediately.
