Method

Citrus-Infused Sol Base

  1. 1

    Measure and combine

Chill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass. Add 4 oz light rum, 1 cup fresh orange juice, 2 tbsp fresh lime juice, 2 tbsp simple syrup, and 1 oz orange liqueur into the shaker.

  2. 2

    Add brightening element

Add 1 oz grapefruit juice and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the shaker for complexity and balance.

  3. 3

Fill the shaker two-thirds full with ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled (the outside of the shaker should feel cold and slightly frosted).

Carbonation & Finish

  1. 4

Place fresh ice (approx. 1 cup) into a highball or Collins glass. Strain the shaken mixture over the ice into the glass, leaving room at the top for soda.

  2. 5

Top with 4 oz chilled club soda. Stir gently once or twice with a bar spoon to integrate the soda without flattening it.

Garnish

  1. 6

Garnish the drink with an orange wheel on the rim and a lime wedge. Optionally slap a sprig of fresh mint between your palms to release its aroma and tuck it into the glass.

  2. 7

Serve immediately with a straw or without, and enjoy.
