Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a highball or Collins glass by filling it with ice and setting aside while you mix the drink.

  2. 2

    Combine base spirits and modifiers

In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz light rum, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with a handful of ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold.

  4. 4

    Prepare serving glass

Dump the ice from the chilled highball/Collins glass and add fresh ice (cubed or crushed) to about 2/3 full.

  5. 5

    Strain and top

Double-strain (or fine-strain if you prefer) the shaken mixture into the prepared glass over fresh ice. Top with 2 oz club soda and give the drink one gentle stir (about 3 turns) to combine without flattening the soda.

  6. 6

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with a lime wheel or twist on the rim and optionally a sprig of fresh mint slapped against your hand to release aroma. Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer.
