- 1
Chill and build
Chill a copper mug or highball glass by filling it with ice and cold water for 1–2 minutes, then discard the water. Add fresh ice cubes to refill the chilled mug or glass until about 3/4 full.
- 2
Mix base
In a small mixing glass or directly in the prepared mug, pour 2 oz blanco tequila, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz agave nectar and 0.25 oz orange liqueur (if using). If using bitters, add 2 dashes now. Stir briefly (6–8 seconds) to combine and slightly chill the mixture.
- 3
Top with ginger beer
Pour 4 oz chilled ginger beer over the tequila mixture. Give the drink one gentle stir to integrate the ginger beer without flattening its carbonation.
- 4
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and, if desired, a mint sprig tucked in beside it. Serve immediately with a straw or short stirring spoon.
- 5
Notes: Adjust sweetness by increasing or decreasing the agave nectar by 0.25 oz increments. For a spicier profile, use a ginger beer with more bite or add a thin slice of fresh ginger when stirring. Use reposado tequila for a rounder, oakier flavor if preferred.
