Method
Lemonade Base
Juice and dissolve
In a measuring cup or small pitcher, combine 1 cup fresh lemon juice, 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon honey, and a pinch of fine sea salt. Stir vigorously until the sugar and honey are fully dissolved. The salt helps brighten the lemon flavor.
Add water
Pour 4 cups cold water into a 1.5–2 quart pitcher. Add the dissolved lemon mixture and stir well to combine.
Flavor & Balance
Zest and tea (optional)
Grate 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest directly into the pitcher to add aromatic oils. If using tea for depth, add 1 cup cold-brew black tea (strong concentrate) to the pitcher; this will add color contrast and body. Stir to blend.
Add activated charcoal
Carefully sprinkle 1 teaspoon food-grade activated charcoal powder into the pitcher while stirring continuously to prevent clumps. The charcoal will produce the signature deep black appearance. Taste and adjust sweetness: add up to 1 additional tablespoon honey or sugar if desired.
Finish & Garnish
Chill and serve
Add 3 cups of ice cubes to the pitcher or fill individual glasses. Stir once more to chill the lemonade evenly and distribute the charcoal. If you used tea concentrate, the color may become a softer charcoal tone; without tea it will be near-black.
