Method
Preparation of Miso Glaze
Mix the Miso Glaze
In a small bowl, combine white miso paste, mirin, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey or agave syrup. Whisk the ingredients together until smooth and well combined. Set aside.
Cooking the Peppers
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it's shimmering but not smoking.
Blister the Peppers
Add the shishito peppers to the hot oil in a single layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the peppers are blistered and charred in spots.
Coat with Miso Glaze
Once the peppers are blistered, remove them from the heat. Drizzle the prepared miso glaze over the hot peppers and toss gently to coat.
Garnishing and Serving
Add Garnishes
Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions over the glazed shishito peppers.
Serve
Transfer the blistered shishito peppers to a serving platter. Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.
