Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and well combined.
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
Drain and Serve
Remove the onion rings from the oil and drain them on paper towels. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauces.
