Base & Liqueur

Method

Preparation

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or old-fashioned glass in the freezer or fill with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Measure ingredients

Measure 2 oz aged rum, 0.75 oz orange curaçao, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz rich simple syrup into a jigger or small mixing cup.

Mixing & Shaking

3

Combine in shaker

Add the measured rum, orange curaçao, lime juice, lemon juice, and rich simple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

4

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is well-chilled and slightly frosted.

5

Double strain

Discard ice from the chilled glass. Using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer, strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or an old-fashioned glass over a large ice cube, depending on preference.

Garnish & Serve

6

Express the oils of a grapefruit or orange twist over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down and giving it a firm twist. Run the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.

7

Serve immediately. The Yellow Spot balances bright citrus, warm orange liqueur, and the rounded sweetness of aged rum — sip and enjoy.
