Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare sugar reduction (if not using pre-made)

In a small saucepan combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Continue simmering 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and cool. This yields roughly 6–7 oz; use 0.5 oz for the cocktail and reserve remainder refrigerated for other drinks.

2

Add gin, mango puree, fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz of the cooled sugar reduction into a cocktail shaker.

3

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is frosty and the mixture is well chilled and slightly aerated.

4

Double-strain the shaken mixture into a chilled highball or Collins glass filled halfway with fresh ice to remove any fibrous mango bits for a smooth texture.

Top / Finish

5

Top the strained cocktail with about 3 oz chilled lime soda. Pour gently over the back of a bar spoon if you want to preserve a layered look; otherwise pour directly and briefly stir (1–2 gentle strokes) to integrate without flattening the soda.

6

Garnish with a lime wheel or a thin mango slice and, if desired, a sprig of mint. Serve with a straw.
