Method

Pour

1

Select an old-fashioned glass (rocks glass). If desired, chill the glass briefly by placing it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or filling with ice water while you prepare the other elements, then discard the water.

2

Place one large ice cube or a large ice sphere in the glass. Large ice melts slower and keeps the bourbon from diluting quickly.

3

Measure 2 oz of Russell's Reserve 10 Year Bourbon with a jigger and pour it over the ice into the glass.

4

Give the glass a gentle swirl (about 3–4 rotations) to slightly chill and integrate the bourbon with the surface of the ice, but avoid vigorous stirring to keep dilution minimal.

Garnish

5

Take one piece of orange peel approximately 1.5 – 2 inches long. Hold it with the outside of the peel facing down over the glass, about 4–6 inches above the surface of the bourbon.

6

Give the peel a quick, firm twist to express the oils over the surface of the bourbon, then run the peel around the rim of the glass to impart aroma. Optionally, drop the peel into the drink or place it on the rim as a garnish.

7

Serve immediately. Encourage the drinker to sip and enjoy neat or with the single large ice cube; tasting notes include caramel, baked spice, oak, and dried fruit typical of a 10-year expression.
