Method
Cocktail
Prepare glass (optional)
If you prefer a salt rim, rub a lime wedge around the outer rim of an old-fashioned glass and dip the rim into a small plate with coarse sea or smoked salt. Set the glass aside.
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Mijenta Reposado tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 0.5 oz orange liqueur.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the outside is frosty — this both chills and dilutes the cocktail to balance flavors.
Strain and serve
Double strain the cocktail into the prepared old-fashioned glass filled with fresh ice, or into a chilled coupe if you prefer it up. Double straining (using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh julep strainer) removes small ice shards and pulp for a smoother drink.
Garnish
Express an orange twist over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the cocktail and giving it a gentle squeeze to release the oils, then run the twist around the rim and drop it into the glass. Add a lime wheel or wedge on the rim for additional aroma.
