Method
Cocktail
Combine ingredients
In a mixing glass, add 2 oz High West American Prairie, 0.75 oz Amaro Averna, 0.5 oz sweet vermouth, 2 dashes orange bitters, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
Add ice
Add large ice cubes to the mixing glass until it is nearly full (about 3 large cubes) to ensure proper dilution and chilling.
Stir
Stir the mixture gently and consistently for 30β45 seconds (roughly 20β30 full strokes) until the outside of the mixing glass feels cold and the drink is slightly diluted and silky.
Prepare garnish
Discard ice water from your chilled serving glass if used. Express the oils from an orange peel over the chilled glass by holding the peel skin-side down about 4β6 inches above the glass and giving it a firm squeeze to spray the oils over the surface of the drink. Optionally, rub the peel's rim around the glass edge.
Strain and serve
Using a Hawthorne or julep strainer (or both), double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass to remove any small ice chips. Place one Luxardo or brandied cherry into the bottom of the glass or on a cocktail pick and rest it across the rim.
Final flourish
Garnish with the expressed orange peel either placed on the rim or dropped into the drink. Serve immediately.
