Method

Preparation

1

Chill glass

Place a chilled old-fashioned glass or rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill.

Mixing

2

Add 2 oz Angel's Envy bourbon and 1 oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth into a mixing glass.

3

Add 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters to the mixing glass.

4

Fill the mixing glass with large cubed or crushed ice. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 30–45 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until the mixture is well chilled, slightly diluted, and the mixing glass is lightly frosted.

Finishing & Garnish

5

Discard the ice or water from the chilled rocks glass. Place a single large clear ice cube into the glass.

6

Strain the stirred cocktail onto the large ice cube using a Hawthorne or julep strainer to remove small ice shards.

7

Express the orange peel over the drink: hold the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the surface and give it a sharp twist to release oils. Run the peel around the rim of the glass, then drop it into the drink.

8

Optionally, garnish with a Luxardo or brandied cherry skewered on a pick and laid across the rim or dropped into the glass.

9

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to enjoy the balance of rich bourbon, rounded sweet vermouth, and bitters.
