Method
Prepare Glass
If desired, lightly rim the rocks glass with a lime wedge and dip the edge into a small plate of flaky sea salt. Set the glass aside.
Mix Cocktail
Add Ingredients
Fill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Pour in 2 oz cristalino tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, 0.5 oz clear orange liqueur and add 2 dashes of orange bitters.
Shake
Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until chilled and slightly diluted (shaker feels cold). Use firm, even shakes—this both chills and integrates the ingredients.
Prepare Ice
Place a large clear ice cube or 2–3 large cubes into the prepared rocks glass. Large ice melts slower and keeps the drink balanced.
Strain
Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the rocks glass over the large ice using a Hawthorne and a fine strainer (or a fine strainer alone) to remove small ice shards and pulp for a silky finish.
Garnish & Serve
Express the oils from an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick twist, then optionally flame it briefly with a lighter for a caramelized aroma. Drop the peel into the glass or discard according to preference. Alternatively garnish with a lime wheel on the rim.
Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the smooth, refined character of the cristalino tequila combined with bright citrus and a touch of sweetness.
