Method
Cocktail
Prepare coffee
Brew a shot of espresso or a small amount of very strong coffee. Allow it to cool to room temperature or chill briefly so it doesn't excessively dilute the drink when shaken with ice.
Combine ingredients
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add 2 fl oz Absolut Vodka, 1 fl oz Kahlúa, 1 fl oz cooled espresso (or strong coffee) and 0.5 fl oz simple syrup if you prefer a sweeter drink.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and the mixture is well combined and slightly frothy from the espresso.
Strain and serve
Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or Martini glass (or an old-fashioned glass with fresh ice if preferred).
Garnish
Float or place three coffee beans on the surface of the drink as a simple garnish.
