1

Prepare glass

If serving on the rocks, place a large chilled old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5 minutes or add one large ice cube to the glass and set aside. If serving neat (up), chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer.

2

Build and stir

In a mixing glass combine 2 oz Angel's Envy Bourbon, 0.25 oz simple or demerara syrup, 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters (if using). Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice.

3

Stir to chill and dilute

Stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full rotations) until the outside of the mixing glass becomes well chilled and slightly frosted. This yields proper dilution and integrates the bitters and syrup with the bourbon.

4

Strain and serve

Strain the cocktail through a Hawthorne or julep strainer into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube (or into the chilled coupe if serving up).

5

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a firm twist so the oils spray across the surface. Run the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink (or hang it on the edge).

6

Enjoy

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate Angel's Envy's finishing notes (often port- or wine-cask influenced) balanced by the syrup and bitters.
