Hot Dogs & Buns

Toppings (recommended)

Fries

Optional condiments & garnish

Method

Fries

1

Oven method (for frozen fries)

Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Spread frozen fries in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Lightly spray or toss with 1 tbsp oil. Bake for 18–25 minutes, turning once halfway, until golden and crisp. Remove from oven, season immediately with 1 tsp kosher salt, and keep warm.

2

Fryer method (for fresh or frozen)

Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 175°C (350°F). For fresh-cut fries, blanch at 160°C (320°F) for 3–4 minutes until pale and tender; remove and drain. Increase oil temperature to 190°C (375°F) and fry in batches until golden brown and crisp, about 2–3 minutes. For frozen fries, fry at 175–190°C (350–375°F) 3–5 minutes until crisp. Drain on paper towels and season with 1 tsp kosher salt.

3

Air-fryer method (alternate)

Preheat air fryer to 200°C (400°F). Toss fries with 1 tbsp oil and place in the basket in a single layer. Air-fry for 12–18 minutes, shaking every 5 minutes, until crisp. Season with 1 tsp kosher salt.

Hot Dogs & Buns

4

Bring a medium pot of water to a gentle simmer (not rolling boil). Add the all-beef hot dogs and poach for 4–6 minutes until heated through. Alternatively, grill or pan-sear: preheat a grill or skillet to medium-high and cook hot dogs, turning occasionally, until nicely browned, about 5–7 minutes.

5

While hot dogs cook, split the potato buns but do not cut all the way through. Spread about 1/2 tablespoon (roughly 0.5 tbs) unsalted butter inside each bun or on the cut sides. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Toast buns buttered-side down for 1–2 minutes until golden and crisp. Remove and keep warm.

6

Place each cooked hot dog into a toasted potato bun. Add desired toppings: 1 tsp yellow mustard and 1 tsp ketchup per dog, 1 tsp sweet pickle relish if using, and about 2 tablespoons (0.5 oz) diced white onion per two dogs as desired. Garnish with pickle chips or sport peppers as preferred.

Plating

7

Arrange each assembled hot dog on a plate with a generous portion of fries (about 175 g per serving). Serve immediately while hot. Provide additional condiments at the table.
