Method
Cold Brew Concentrate
Combine coffee and water
Place 1 cup coarsely ground coffee in a large jar or pitcher. Pour 4 cups cold filtered water over the grounds, making sure all grounds are saturated. Stir gently with a spoon to ensure even wetting.
Steep
Cover the jar with a lid or plastic wrap. Let steep at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 16 to 20 hours. (Longer steep up to 24 hours yields stronger concentrate; shorter 12 hours will be milder.)
Strain
After steeping, place a fine mesh sieve lined with cheesecloth (or a coffee filter) over a secondary container. Slowly pour the coffee through the sieve to separate the liquid from the grounds. If using cheesecloth, you may need to strain a second time to remove fine sediment. Press gently on the grounds with a spoon—do not squeeze vigorously, which can add bitterness.
Refrigerate
Cover the filtered concentrate and refrigerate. The concentrate will keep for up to 10 days; best within 5–7 days for fresh flavor.
To Serve
Sweeten and Finish
If desired, add 1 tablespoon simple syrup (or to taste) and 2 tablespoons milk or cream for a richer texture. Stir gently to combine.
Serve
Taste and adjust with more water, milk, or sweetener as preferred. Serve immediately over ice.
Notes & Storage
Concentrate strength can be adjusted by changing coffee-to-water ratio (e.g., 1:3 for stronger, 1:5 for weaker). Use coarsely ground coffee to minimize sediment and bitterness. Store leftover concentrate in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
