Cocktail Base

Method

Cocktail Prep

  1. 1

    Prepare dragon fruit puree

If using fresh dragon fruit, peel and dice about 1/4 cup flesh. Place in a blender or use an immersion blender and purée until smooth. Strain through a fine mesh if you prefer a smoother texture. Measure 1 oz of puree for the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker add: 2 oz Patron Reposado, 0.75 oz Cointreau, 1 oz dragon fruit puree, 1 oz fresh orange juice, 1 oz fresh pineapple juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is well-chilled. This chills and dilutes the drink to balance the fruit and spirit.

  4. 4

    Strain and serve

Double strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or rocks glass filled with fresh ice (rocks glass) using a cocktail strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and small ice shards. For a slightly slushy texture, you can strain over crushed ice instead.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Express an orange twist over the drink to release its oils and drop it into the glass. Add a thin dragon fruit slice or wedge on the rim or floated on top. Optionally, thread the dragon fruit and a small orange wheel on a cocktail pick for a more polished presentation.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Recommend pairing with light seafood or as a signature aperitif.
