Preparation
- 1
Rim the glass (optional)
If you prefer a salted or spiced rim, run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass and dip the rim into coarse salt or Tajín. Set the glass aside to dry briefly.
- 2
Shake the cocktail
Add Don Julio Reposado (2 oz), Cointreau (1 oz), fresh lime juice (0.75 oz), hibiscus nectar (0.75 oz), and simple syrup (0.25 oz) to a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and secure the lid.
- 3
Shake vigorously
Shake the mixture vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted on the outside.
- 4
Strain
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh ice (if serving on the rocks) or into a chilled coupe (for a neater presentation). Use a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and any hibiscus solids.
- 5
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and optionally float a dried hibiscus flower on top. Serve immediately.
