Preparation

Juice lemon
If not already measured, juice fresh lemons and strain to remove pulp and seeds. Measure 0.75 oz (about 3/4 oz) fresh lemon juice.
Mixing & Serving
- 3
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz Hennessy VSOP, 1 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec), 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup if you prefer a slightly sweeter balance. Add a generous amount of ice (about 4 oz or enough to fill the shaker).
- 4
Shake
Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and well chilled. This both chills and slightly dilutes the cocktail for proper balance.
- 5
Double-strain & garnish
Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared chilled, sugared coupe or Nick & Nora glass (use a Hawthorne strainer plus a fine mesh strainer to catch small ice shards and pulp). Express a lemon twist over the surface to release oils, then drop the twist into the drink or rest it on the rim.
- 6
Serve
Serve immediately. The cocktail yields one serving. Recommend pairing with light hors d'oeuvres or enjoying as a digestif.
