Clase Azul Tequila Flight
Method
Clase Azul Tequila Flight
- 1
Chill and prepare glassware
Place three small cordial or tasting glasses in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes or fill them with ice water for 5 minutes to lightly chill. If using ceramic tasting cups, rinse with cold water to cool them.
- 2
Pour tequilas
Discard ice water from the chilled glasses and dry them. Pour 1 oz of Clase Azul Plata into the first glass, 1 oz of Clase Azul Reposado into the second glass, and 1 oz of Clase Azul Añejo into the third glass. Arrange the glasses left to right: Plata (lightest), Reposado (middle), Añejo (darkest).
- 3
Prepare tasting accoutrements
Place a lime wedge and a pinch of flaky sea salt beside each glass. Place an orange peel twist next to the Añejo glass to complement its oak and orange-forward notes. Arrange crackers or plain bread and a small glass of filtered water on the side to cleanse the palate between pours.
- 4
Tasting order and technique
Start with the Plata: gently swirl the glass once, bring it to your nose and take a short, controlled sniff to identify floral and citrus notes. Sip a small amount (about a teaspoon), let it coat your tongue, note the entry and finish. If desired, lightly touch the lime wedge to the corner of your mouth and taste how citrus affects the tequila. Use a cracker or a small sip of water to neutralize before the next pour.
- 5
Proceed to Reposado
Move to the Reposado next. Swirl once and smell to notice added vanilla, light oak or caramel notes from barrel aging. Take a small sip, hold briefly to sense mid-palate textures, and note differences from the Plata. Optionally, compare with a tiny pinch of sea salt and a small lime touch to explore flavor interactions. Cleanse with cracker or water before the Añejo.
- 6
Finish with Añejo
For the Añejo, swirl once and inhale to detect deeper oak, baking spice, dried fruit or chocolate notes. Take a small sip, allow it to linger, and observe the finish and complexity. Optionally, inhale the orange peel twist immediately before tasting to add a citrus-zest aroma that pairs with the aged spirit.
- 7
Discuss and enjoy
After tasting all three, you can revisit any expression to compare elements such as sweetness, mouthfeel, finish, and aroma. Use the remaining lime, salt, water, and crackers as needed. Drink responsibly and stop when satisfied.
