Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place your coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to ensure it is well chilled.

2

Measure ingredients

Using a jigger, measure 2 oz Manifest Rye and 1 oz Tximista Vermouth into your mixing glass.

3

Add bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters directly into the mixing glass with the spirits.

4

Add ice and stir

Add 4 large ice cubes to the mixing glass. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 revolutions) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted — the spoon should leave faint trails on the glass.

5

Prepare garnish

While stirring, if using an orange peel, cut a 1–2 inch piece of peel. Express the oils over the finished cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down and giving it a firm twist over the glass, then lightly rub the rim and discard or drop in as desired.

6

Strain and garnish

Discard ice water from the chilled serving glass if used. Using a Hawthorne or julep strainer, strain the stirred Manhattan into the chilled glass. Garnish with one Bordeaux cherry on a pick, dropping it into the drink or resting it on the rim. If you prepared an expressed orange peel, either discard it or place it on the rim as an additional aromatic note.

7

Serve

Serve immediately, noting the drink should be clear, cold and silky with a bright cherry note and hints of vermouth and bitters.

Equipment

8

Use the mixing glass, jigger, bar spoon, and strainer as described above. Ensure the glassware is chilled and the ice is large and hard for minimal dilution. Clean and dry the peeler/knife and bar tools before use.
