Method
Hennessy Layer
Build Hennessy layer
Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass by placing in the freezer or filling with ice water for a few minutes. In a small mixing glass, combine 0.75 oz Hennessy VS and 0.25 oz simple syrup. Stir gently with ice just long enough to lightly chill (about 10 seconds). Using the back of a bar spoon, carefully pour the Hennessy mixture into the chilled glass to create the bottom layer. Set aside.
Park City Daiquiri Layer
Prepare Daiquiri
In a cocktail shaker, add 1.0 oz white rum, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.25 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 0.5 oz egg white if using. Dry-shake (no ice) vigorously for 10–15 seconds to emulsify the egg white. Add ice (about 3/4 full shaker) and shake hard for 12–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy.
Layer Daiquiri over Hennessy
Remove ice or water from the chilled glass if used. Using a fine strainer and the back of a spoon held just above the Hennessy layer, slowly strain the shaken daiquiri onto the Hennessy so it forms a distinct middle layer. Pour gently and steadily to avoid mixing the layers (a light, steady stream held close to the spoon works best).
Don Julio Reposado Layer
Add tequila layer
Measure 0.75 oz Don Julio Reposado into a small jigger. Using the back of a bar spoon and pouring very slowly, float the tequila on top of the daiquiri layer so it sits as a third band. Pouring over the spoon and keeping the flow thin and close to the surface helps preserve separate layers.
Finish
Top with Grand Marnier and garnish
Carefully measure 0.25 oz Grand Marnier and float it on top of the tequila layer the same way (over the back of a spoon). Finish with a lime wheel or twist perched on the rim or floated on the top. Serve immediately so layers remain distinct. Advise the guest to sip through the layers or gently stir if they prefer a combined drink.
Notes on technique: Use chilled glassware and well-strained, cold daiquiri to help layering. Pour slowly, keep spoon close to the liquid surface, and use spirits with different densities and viscosities to aid separation. If layers begin to merge, a very gentle pour and colder liquids will help.
