Fried Green Tomatoes
Method
Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Tomatoes
Wash the green tomatoes and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
Set up three shallow dishes: one with flour mixed with salt and pepper, one with buttermilk and beaten eggs, and one with cornmeal.
- 3
Bread the Tomatoes
Dredge each tomato slice in the flour mixture, dip in the buttermilk mixture, then coat with cornmeal, pressing gently to adhere.
- 4
Fry the Tomatoes
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, fry the breaded tomato slices in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 5
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried tomatoes from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm, topped with crumbled goat cheese and drizzled with red pepper coulis.
