Method

Preparing the Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until well combined, but do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375°F to 400°F).

  2. 4

    Grill the Patties

Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and grill for another 4-5 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the patties are grilling, wash and dry the lettuce leaves. Slice the tomato and red onion into thin rounds.

  2. 7

    Toast the Buns

Optionally, toast the burger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes until slightly crispy.

  3. 8

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the grilled patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and red onion rounds. Top with the other half of the bun.
