Cocktail Base
Oak Aging (optional short barrel or jar infusion)
Garnish
Ice
Method
Oak Aging (optional)
Short-Age the Spirit Blend
Combine Rey Campero joven (1 oz) and Olmeca Altos reposado (0.75 oz) in a clean glass jar. Add toasted oak chips or the small stave (0.25 oz equivalent). Seal the jar and rest at room temperature for 4–12 hours, tasting every 2 hours. For a lighter oak character, 4–6 hours; for more pronounced new oak tannin and vanilla, up to 12 hours. Remove chips/stave when desired intensity is reached. (If you prefer not to age, skip this step and proceed with unaged spirits.)
Build & Stir
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing glass filled with large ice, add the aged (or unaged) spirit blend (Rey Campero + Olmeca Altos), then add Strega (0.5 oz), Cardamaro (0.25 oz), and Cocchi di Torino (0.5 oz).
Stir
Stir the mixture briskly for 30–45 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until properly chilled and diluted (~20–25% dilution depending on ice). This will integrate the herbal and sweet elements with the smoky/agave core.
Strain
Strain the stirred cocktail through a Hawthorne or julep strainer into a chilled Old Fashioned glass over one large ice cube or a block.
Garnish & Serve
Serve immediately. Tasting notes: smoky-agave core from the mezcal, rounded reposado body, sweet-warm herbal lift from Strega, bittersweet complexity from Cardamaro, and lush aromatics from Cocchi di Torino, all brightened and subtly integrated by the new American oak influence if used.
