Place the bottle of Vernaccia di San Gimignano into an ice bucket filled with ice and water for 15–20 minutes, or chill in the refrigerator at 8–10°C (46–50°F) for at least 2 hours before serving. Proper temperature highlights the wine's floral, citrus and mineral notes.

Chill

If the bottle has been stored lying down and you detect sediment or want to open the aromatics, gently pour the wine into a decanter or large glass carafe about 10–20 minutes before serving. Let it breathe briefly to allow complex aromas of flowers and citrus to lift.

Decant (optional)

Use clean, stemmed white wine glasses (tulip-shaped or standard white wine glass). Pre-rinse each glass with chilled water and wipe dry to avoid residual odors.

Glassware

Hold the bottle at the base, pour slowly into each glass to about one-third full (approximately 120–150 ml per serving). If you decanted, swirl the decanter gently before pouring to integrate the aromas.

Pouring

Confirm wine is at 8–12°C (46–54°F). If too warm, return to ice bucket for 5–10 minutes; if too cold, let sit at room temperature for 5 minutes.

Serve temperature check

Prepare simple accompaniments that complement the wine's floral and citrus notes and bright minerality. Arrange thinly sliced fennel and citrus slices on a small platter. Offer crusty bread and mild cheeses such as fresh ricotta or goat cheese beside the wine.
