Method
Cooking the Pasta
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water.
Cook the Pasta
Add 2 cups of penne pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 10-12 minutes.
Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.
Preparing the Sauce
Sauté Garlic
In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Pour in the 28 oz of canned crushed tomatoes. Stir in 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
Add Fresh Basil
Once the sauce is simmering, add 1 cup of chopped fresh basil. Stir well and let it cook for another 5 minutes.
Combining and Serving
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to combine everything well, ensuring the pasta is coated with the sauce.
Serve
Serve the pasta in bowls and sprinkle with 0.5 cups of grated Parmesan cheese. Garnish with fresh basil leaves to taste.
