Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass (optional salted rim)

If you want a salted or chili-salt rim, rub a lime wedge around the glass rim, then dip the rim into a small plate with coarse salt or chili-salt. Set the glass aside.

2

Muddle jalapeño

Place 3 jalapeño slices in a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle 6–8 times to release bright heat and oils without pulverizing the seeds (for less heat, remove seeds before muddling).

3

Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz vodka, 0.5 oz ginger liqueur (or 0.5 oz ginger syrup plus a splash more vodka if using syrup), 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 2 dashes angostura bitters to the shaker with the muddled jalapeño.

4

Shake

Add about 1 cup of ice to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker feels cold and well-chilled.

5

Double strain and serve

Fill the prepared serving glass with cracked ice or ice cubes (about 1 cup). Double-strain the cocktail into the glass through a fine mesh strainer (to remove jalapeño bits) while holding back ice in the shaker. This yields a clean, balanced drink with peppery notes.

Garnish

6

Float a jalapeño wheel on top and add a lime wheel or twist on the rim. For extra visual 'firecracker' flair, add a small dash more angostura bitters on the surface and gently swirl with a toothpick.
