Hugo Spritz Base
Aromatics & Garnish
Method
Prep
- 1
Chill glassware
Place a large wine or stemmed glass in the refrigerator or fill with ice water for 5 minutes to chill while you prepare ingredients.
- 2
Lightly bruise 6 of the mint leaves by clapping them between your palms or gently crushing with the back of a spoon to release aroma. Reserve 2 leaves whole for garnish.
- 3
Thinly slice cucumber and cut a lime wheel or wedge for garnish.
Build the Mocktail
- 4
- 5
Add the 2 tablespoons elderflower cordial into the glass over the ice.
- 6
Pour in the chilled sparkling white grape juice (1 cup).
- 7
Add the fresh lime juice (0.5 oz) to brighten the drink.
- 8
- 9
Gently stir once or twice with a long bar spoon (do not over-stir) to combine the elderflower, grape juice, lime, and soda while keeping bubbles lively.
Finish & Garnish
- 10
Tuck the bruised mint leaves and cucumber slices into the drink, pressing lightly against the glass so their aroma infuses the mocktail.
- 11
Garnish the rim with the lime wheel or wedge and gently slap the reserved whole mint leaves to release aroma and place on top.
- 12
Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer so the drinker can adjust dilution; advise sipping while fizzy and cold.
