Build and shake
Add 1 oz Don Q dark rum, 1 oz bourbon, 1 oz fresh passion fruit pulp, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice and 0.5 oz honey syrup into a cocktail shaker. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters. Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the mixture is well chilled and slightly aerated.
- 3
Double strain
Place a fine-mesh strainer over a chilled coupe or rocks glass and strain the shaken cocktail into the glass. Double-straining removes seeds and pulp fibers from the passion fruit for a smooth texture.
- 4
Optional: Serve over crushed ice
If you prefer the drink on the rocks, fill a rocks glass with fresh crushed ice and strain the cocktail over the ice instead of serving neat.
- 5
Garnish and finish
Finish with a lime wheel on the rim and, if available, a toasted passion fruit half or dehydrated passion fruit disc floated on top. Optionally add one small additional dash of Angostura bitters on the surface to lift aromatics.
- 6
Serve
Serve immediately while cold. Recommend one serving per preparation.
