Jack Daniel's Recipe

Prepare shaker

Add ice to the cocktail shaker until it's about two-thirds full (roughly 1 cup of ice). This chills the shaker and will cool the drink quickly.

Measure and combine ingredients

Using a jigger, pour 2 oz Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into the shaker. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top.

Shake

Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and condensation forms. This properly chills and dilutes the cocktail.

Prepare glass

Fill a rocks glass with fresh ice (one large cube or several smaller cubes). If you prefer a slightly lighter drink, leave room to top with club soda.

Strain and finish

Using a Hawthorne strainer, strain the shaken mixture over the ice in the rocks glass. If using, top with about 1 oz club soda for a touch of effervescence and gently stir once with a bar spoon to combine.

Garnish and serve

Express the oils from a lemon twist or orange peel over the drink by holding the peel over the glass and giving it a firm snap; then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass. Serve immediately.

Use the jigger to measure spirits and mixers accurately. Use the shaker to combine and chill ingredients, the strainer to keep ice out of the glass, and the bar spoon to gently mix if topping with soda.
