Rolls & Assembly

Optional Toppings & Condiments

Method

Rolls & Assembly

  1. 1

    Warm and butter rolls

Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Place the rolls cut-side up on a baking sheet and warm in the oven for 5–7 minutes. Remove and spread about 1/2 tablespoon softened butter on each cut side while warm.

  2. 2

Assemble each roll by layering: bottom half of roll, sausage patty, egg, hash brown, optional cheese slice, a drizzle of desired condiment, then top half of roll. Serve immediately.

Sausage

  1. 3

    Cook sausage

Heat 1 teaspoon vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage patties (or flattened links) and cook 3–4 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through (internal temp 160°F / 71°C for pork sausage). Transfer to a plate and keep warm in the oven while you cook the eggs and hash browns.

Eggs

  1. 4

    Fried or folded eggs (preferred)

For fried eggs: heat 1 teaspoon oil or butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-low. Crack eggs into the pan, season each with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook until whites are set but yolks are still slightly runny, about 2–3 minutes; for over-easy, flip carefully and cook 15–30 seconds more. Remove and keep warm.

  2. 5

    Scrambled eggs (alternative)

Beat the 4 eggs with 2 tablespoons milk (or water), 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper until blended. Heat 1 teaspoon butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-low, pour eggs in and let them set at the edges, then gently stir until soft curds form, 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat a little underdone; they will finish cooking while assembling.

Hash Browns

  1. 6

    Form hash brown patties

If using thawed shredded potatoes or freshly grated and squeezed dry potato, combine in a bowl with 1 tablespoon flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper and the grated onion (if using). Mix until evenly combined. Divide into 4 equal portions and press each portion firmly into a 3–4 inch patty about 1/2-inch thick.

  2. 7

    Pan-fry hash browns

Heat 3 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When oil is shimmering, add the patties (work in batches if needed) and cook undisturbed 3–4 minutes until the bottom is deep golden brown. Flip carefully and cook another 3–4 minutes until crisp and cooked through. Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate and keep warm in the oven with the sausage and rolls.

Optional Toppings & Condiments

  1. 8

If using cheese, place a slice on the hot sausage or egg for 30–60 seconds to melt slightly before assembling. Offer ketchup and hot sauce on the side or add to each roll to taste.
