Cocktail

1

Prepare honey syrup

If you don't have honey syrup ready, combine equal parts honey and warm water (for example, 1/4 cup honey + 1/4 cup warm water). Stir until smooth and allow to cool. Measure 0.5 oz for the recipe.

2

Muddle aromatics

In a cocktail shaker, add the cucumber slices and mint leaves. Gently muddle 6–8 times—just enough to release cucumber juice and mint oils without pulverizing the mint (avoid over-muddling which causes bitterness).

3

Add spirits and citrus

Add 2 oz gin, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz honey syrup, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, and 0.25 oz green chartreuse to the shaker with the muddled cucumber and mint.

4

Dry shake

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 8–10 seconds to help emulsify the honey syrup with the citrus and create a silkier mouthfeel.

5

Shake with ice

Add 1 cup of ice to the shaker, then shake hard for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and exterior frosts.

6

Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or a rocks glass filled with 0.5 cup fresh ice using a fine mesh strainer to remove bits of mint and cucumber. If you prefer a longer drink, pour over fresh ice in a highball glass.

7

Optional top and finish

If desired, top with 1 oz club soda for a touch of effervescence. Gently stir once to integrate.

8

Garnish and serve

Thread a cucumber ribbon along the inside of the glass or float it on top, and finish with a fresh mint sprig. Serve immediately.
