1

Build and stir

Place a mixing glass or a short stirring glass in front of you. Add 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth to the glass.

2

Add ice

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes (enough to chill but leave room for stirring). If you prefer a single large cube in the serving glass, keep one aside.

3

Stir to chill and dilute

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full rotations) until well chilled and slightly diluted. The exterior of the glass should become frosty.

4

Prepare serving glass

If using a rocks/old-fashioned glass, place a large ice cube or sphere into the glass. If serving up, strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass (omit the ice cube).

5

Strain

Strain the stirred cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared serving glass over the ice cube (or neat into the chilled coupe).

6

Garnish and finish

Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick twist to release the citrus oils. Rub the peel's rim along the glass if desired, then drop the peel into the drink as garnish.

7

Serve immediately.
